Germany and Mexico: Cooperation between ministries of economic affairs on Industry 4.0

The German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the Mexican Ministry of Economy (SE) aim to exchange strategies, recommendations and best practices regarding Industrie4.0. In this way, the state and the private sector are to be supported in shaping the transformation towards Industrie 4.0. The Plattform Industrie 4.0 and the Mexican "Plataforma México I. 4.0" are to cooperate to this end. In addition, the partners are promoting Industrie 4.0 in international bodies, e.g. the G20 and the OECD.

The focus is on nine topics: industrial cyber security; international standardisation; Industrie 4.0 test labs; regulatory policy and international regulation; internet governance; private-public cooperation in the digital sector; support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); skills and training; and research and development.

Background

Germany and Mexico agreed on their cooperation on Industrie 4.0 and digital policy during the Hannover Messe 2018. The agreement is initially valid for five years. In October 2019, the first Hannover Messe took place in Léon, Mexico (Industrial Transformation MEXICO). Plattform Industrie 4.0 presented its work there and exchanged ideas with Mexican partners with the participation of the Standardization Council Industrie 4.0. At the second Hannover Messe Mexico in November 2020, the potential for cooperation was reaffirmed.
